What Families Need to Know About Manifestation Determination

School staff are trained to understand how a student’s disability might affect their actions and to use strategies like calming techniques, positive behavior supports, and clear expectations and routines to help them be successful in school. Even with these strategies in place, a student’s behavior can lead to a disciplinary change in placement. When that happens, the school must conduct a manifestation determination meeting to determine whether the behavior was related to the student’s disability.

  2. To search by topic, click the drop-down menu “Filter by Topic.” Once you have selected a topic, click “Go.”
  3. Click the title of the publication to access the publication’s record.
  4. To view the publication, click the Download button.
  5. The publication will open in a new tab in your browser. You may either view the document or save it to your computer.
  6. To order a publication in hard copy, enter in the quantity you wish to order and click the “Add to Cart” button.
  7. If the “Add to Cart” button is not visible, the publication is available only for download.
  8. When you have finished shopping, click "My Account" at the top of the page, then click “My Cart."
  9. ​Confirm the quantity desired for each publication. To remove a publication from your order, click "Remove."
  10. Click “Checkout.”​
  11. Upon successful transaction, an order confirmation will be sent to you.
