Students who are deafblind have combined vision and hearing disabilities which require specific instructional strategies that address their unique support needs. In combination, the impact of these conditions, with or without additional disabilities, is educationally significant. This includes students with conditions that put them at risk for future combined vision and hearing disabilities. Families and school teams of students who are deafblind are encouraged to explore the resources on this website, and reach out to their regional DeafBlind Project Consultants (link to DeafBlind Project consultants list) with questions and support needs.
This issue of Teachers' Desk Reference focuses on what teachers need to know about educating students with deafblindness in the general education classroom, including the impact of deafblindness on a student's learning and best practices in programs for students with deafblindness.
