Mathematics

It has been argued that mathematics education is a civil rights issue because of the connection between mathematics and quality of life indicators such as employment, income, and healthcare. The PaTTAN Mathematics Initiative helps schools design and implement a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to establish data collection procedures and problem-solving processes that can inform the allocation of school resources in order to enhance student achievement. Through the application of data-based decision-making and instructional Pennsylvania schools are positioned to reduce overidentification for special education, intervene effectively to prevent and close achievement gaps, and eliminate disproportionate outcomes among student subgroups.
