In this presentation, Dr. Hughes will share six evidence-based teaching strategies that support student learning and achievement, including how clear and concise math language, use of representations, and word problem instruction can support conceptual and procedural understanding of math and boost achievement. We will discuss supports and barriers to success.

This session is designed for novice coaches to learn practical strategies to assist with leading a building to implementation fidelity. This session will demonstrate the importance of clear and explicit teaching methods through both an example of a mundane lecture and engaging, research-based techniques that transform the educational experience. Attendees will learn how to effectively explain complex concepts and use storytelling principles to foster a deeper understanding among students.

This session will present Universal Mental Health Strategies that are evidence based that any school or classroom can use to support teaching strategies within a PBIS or MTSS framework.

Screening, planning, monitoring - oh my! This session will provide the most current information on how to use assessment tools and data to plan for intervention and monitor progress along the way.

We had questions…What do we do with our screening data? What evidence based programs should we use? Who can help us implement these programs? We will share the answers that we found to help meet the needs of our students and strive to integrate with the mental health system.

A large percent of students in the U.S. perform below standards. This is especially true with secondary math. While there are many ways to better prepare students for success in the elementary levels, addressing students' concerns in grades 6-12 are essential. Students with math difficulties often struggle with visual-spatial working memory requiring an increased emphasis on instructional visuals. In this session, Dr. Witzel will explain the benefit of visuals and demonstrate the use of visuals in secondary computation, geometric, and problem solving.

We will give an overview of how Bellevue Elementary School was able to reboot their PBIS Program, gain teacher buy-in, and incorporate the Chill Project and Student Assistance Program to provide evidence-based interventions. Strategies to gain student voice through an ambassador program and family voice through school and community events will also be shared.
