Kathleen Lynne Lane is a Roy A Roberts Distinguished Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Kansas and Associate Vice Chancellor for Research. Dr. Lane's research interests focus on designing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive, integrated, three-tiered (Ci3T) models of prevention to (a) prevent the development of learning and behavior challenges and (b) respond to existing instances, with an emphasis on systematic screening. advantages and disadvantages of each to support schools in adopting a behavior screener. In this session, PaTTAN Consultants provide an overview of the approval process for using RTI (Response to Intervention) methodology to identify Specific Learning Disability (SLD) in the state of Pennsylvania, using the PaTTAN – BSE RTI for SLD Fidelity tool application.

This session will focus on the use of instructional strategies to support core reading at the secondary level (grades 5-10) for students who struggle with reading. Specifically, strategies to help support content engagement through word study and comprehension building will be discussed within the context of an integrated reading-writing approach. Participants who wish to implement a strategy from this session and attend the second session in this series will receive a presentation template.
