AAC and AT for Students with Deaf-Blindness and Multiple Disabilities

This session will focus on an overview of multi-modal Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), including no-tech, light-tech, and high-tech communication systems. The emphasis will be on considerations for selecting, designing, and implementing studentcentered communication systems for learners with dual sensory loss and a range of multiple disabilities.

Developing Functional Routines for Students with Deaf-Blindness and Multiple Disabilities

This session will provide an overview of functional skills and considerations for identifying meaningful child-centered activities for children with multiple disabilities. Participants will gain practical information on instructional models, appropriate curricular models and goals, adapting the general education curriculum, and specific practices in planning routines, activities, and goals (task analysis, activity skills matrix, and prompt hierarchy).

Hearing Technology: Current and Future Options

A variety of technology options exist to assist children with hearing loss. This course will focus on options available that are based on degree and type of hearing loss for hearing aids, FM systems, and cochlear implants. Current hot topics in pediatric audiology will also be discussed and include management of minimal and unilateral hearing loss, middle ear implants, single-sided deafness, expanding cochlear implant candidacy, auditory brainstem implants, and wireless connectivity.

2017 Academic MTSS Implementers Forum: Using RtI for SLD Determination for Written Expression and Mathematics

This advanced workshop presents assessment procedures for using response to intervention (RtI) as part of a comprehensive evaluation for students who display deficiencies in mathematics and/or written expression. What constitutes sufficient data for the determination of specific learning disabilities (SLD) in these areas in terms of level of performance and rate of improvement will be discussed.

2017 Academic MTSS Implementers Forum: Multi-Tiered Systems of Support for Attendance: The Journey of One High School

Missing just two days of school a month, puts a child’s high school graduation at risk. Students with regular attendance are more likely to graduate. This session will help participants to become familiar with a Multi-Tiered System of Support around attendance. Albert Gallatin High School will share their experiences around installing supports at each of the three tiers. They will also share ideas around engaging families and the community in supporting attendance. Additionally, resources from Attendance Works, a national and state initiative that promotes awareness around chronic absence and attendance, will be shared.

Gain strategies to increase family and community involvement in middle and high schools by focusing on teen-appropriate activities linked to student achievement for all students and other indicators of success in school.
