The EyeGaze Edge is an eye-operated communication and control system. The system is operated entirely with the eyes. With the EyeGaze Edge, an individual can speak, write, interface with a computer, and control systems in varying environments. A user can make a selection by looking at keys displayed on the 15 inch screen for a specified period of time. The gaze duration to visually activate a key is adjustable. When setting up the system for a particular user, a 15 second calibration procedure is required. A small camera takes images of the user’s eye, which are analyzed by image processing software. This analysis determines where the user is looking. Nothing is attached to the user’s head or body. The Eyegaze Edge camera allows the system to be positioned high or low with a focus range of 16 to 30 inches. The user does not need to be parallel to the screen. The Edge predicts a user’s gaze point to within ¼ inch, accommodates numerous eye variations, and tracks a user’s eyes even in the dark. A user can generate speech by using an on screen keyboard or pre-programmed phrases. The system comes with a flexible mount.
