Moving into a new community and starting at a new school can be challenging for students. For immigrant and refugee students, challenges often exist because of cultural and language differences. Cultural navigation is a model for providing linguistically and culturally relevant support to English Learners and their families. The team of cultural navigators and advisors understand key components of the cultures of the families they serve and are equipped to enhance communication and trust among students, families, and schools, and provide supports to bridge home, community, and school. PaTTAN educational consultant, Maria Ronneburger, and IU13 community education supervisor, Joshua McManness, joined PaTTANpod to discuss how the Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13’s team of cultural navigators works with the School District of Lancaster and local community to build partnerships that empower students and their families. Isobel Benites and Jalilah Yacoub shared what cultural navigation means to their families. IU13 cultural navigators, Ahmadullah Falzi, Jeremy Rhoads, and Sunila Safi provided a glimpse into their role and efforts.

Forbes has released several albums and EPs, including "Perfect Imperfection" and "Little Victories," which quickly hit #1 on several top music charts. Self described as "deaf and loud," Forbes incorporates American Sign Language (ASL) into his music and often collaborates with other deaf artists. Forbes is also the co-founded the Deaf Professional Arts Network (DPAN), a nonprofit organization that makes music and music culture accessible for the deaf and hard of hearing community. D-PAN has produced several music videos featuring deaf performers, including an ASL interpretation of Eminem's "Lose Yourself," which Forbes performed himself. DPAN now provides a wide range of media production services with a focus on ASL access. Aiming to inspire others to chase their dreams, Forbes has performed hundreds of live shows in which he shares his music, stories, and message about chasing dreams.

This video will provide an overview of determining essential needs and "root cause" using survey level assessment and determining RTI via progress-monitoring in order to inform instructional intensification.

Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Required Elements - This webinar discusses the purpose of an IEP, the required contents of an IEP, required IEP team members, how the sections of the IEP are interconnected. Resources to aid in the development of IEPs are incorporated into the presentation. This session includes the recorded webinar, transcript, handout, and a discussion guide that can be used during the presentation to facilitate conversation about the content. These materials can be used to supplement professional development programs aimed at increasing the knowledge of general and special education teachers regarding the special education process.
