You will be provided with tools to supplement evidence -based multi-tiered systems of support for Tier 2 students through the use of (CICO). Participants will leave with evidence-based programming knowledge, resources ready for implementation according to your needs, and a timeline for successful implementation. You will leave with copies of digital documents via Google Drive to calculate automatically and analyze student data/progress based on individual student goals.

Are fractions "part of a whole"? Points on the number line? Are they numbers? Adding portions of pie makes sense, but multiplying 2/3 of a pie and 4/5 of a pie is meaningless! So, is the arithmetic of fractions we were taught relevant? This session is for all who want to make sense of fractions, once and for all! (Grades 3 - 6)

This session will offer a variety of multi-modal strategies for teaching foundation skills. Beginning with numeracy and place value concepts we will connect to higher level operations. Participants will utilize manipulatives, graphic organizers, and concise explicit language for supporting students in developing sound reasoning and memory for initial math concepts.

This presentation will focus on how educators can develop and promote meaningful personalized math instruction within the inclusive classrooms. We will explore research findings that focus on the development of an individualized inclusive educational framework utilizing personalized supports, explicit early numeracy skill instruction, grade-aligned math curriculum and embedded systematic instruction for students with extensive support needs. Through teacher-directed professional development and planning, educational teams can increase student numeracy during grade-aligned inclusive math lessons. Together we will dive deeper into ways for educational teams (general educator, special educator, and paraprofessional) to utilize research-based practices for students with extensive support needs within the inclusive math classroom. With a continued call for research and practice to address the necessity for both quality math instruction and meaningful inclusive education for students with extensive support needs, this presentation will engage participants in data driven discussions regarding implementation.

Session will present creative ways to refresh students on PBIS expectations and reinforce following school rules, discuss ideas on encouraging staff to feel renewed as well as ideas for fundraising ideas.

Thanks to recent increased research on mathematics interventions, there are more evidence-based practices available to secondary math educators. In this workshop, participants set-up targeted interventions that both build foundational skills and prepare for success in secondary content using scaffolded representations.

Practical suggestions for explicit teaching of summary writing based on text and non-text sources will be shared, including scaffolds.

How can we better manage bus behavior? Valley View Elementary has successfully tackled this question using a multi-tiered system of supports. Through an interactive presentation, attendees will learn how to decrease bus referrals and will leave with simple ideas to implement into their own community of learning right away. Discover Tier 1 initiatives to seamlessly incorporate into any existing PBS program, and a Tier 2 intervention that only requires one faculty member.

Math is cumulative–or relentlessly hierarchical–making mastery of foundational concepts essential for student success. A key ingredient in developing fluency and confidence is frequent, purposeful practice. Yet, practice is sometimes misunderstood or undervalued. Rather than being seen as tedious, practice should be embraced and celebrated as an indispensable tool for student success—but some approaches are more effective than others. We will explore strategies for structuring practice, integrating practice into daily math lessons, and appropriately breaking down concepts for novice learners. Attendees will gain practical techniques to ensure students have the opportunities they need to build a strong mathematical foundation.

The Syntax Attuned Educator: Supporting Students’ Ability to Comprehend and Write Sentences Syntactic knowledge, the ability to understand a variety of grammatical structures within the context of a sentence, supports students’ comprehension of text. This session presents research on syntax and explains its critical role in comprehending complex text. Armed with this understanding, educators learn how to teach their students the functions of sentence parts—words, phrases, and clauses—in order to show them how to unpack the meaning of sentences they encounter in text.
