Respect is more than a value—it’s a critical building block for healthy brain development in young children. In this session, based on The Growing Brain: From Birth to 5 Years Old curriculum, we’ll explore how respect shapes a child’s sense of security, self-worth, and ability to form positive relationships. Participants will learn practical strategies for fostering respect in everyday interactions with infants, toddlers, and preschool children including how to honor their individuality, respond to their cues, and create environments that support emotional and cognitive growth.
Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Define the concept of respect in the context of early brain development and identify ways it influences social-emotional growth in children from birth to age five.
- Identify responsive caregiving strategies that model respect during interactions with infants and toddlers.
- Describe current practices in their setting and develop an actionable plan to incorporate respect-based approaches that support healthy brain development.
