This session will provide an overview of the implementation of sensory integration in the school setting. The session will focus on the difference between sensory-based interventions and sensory integration. The session will provide practical ways to implement evidence-based interventions in the school setting through a multi-tiered systems of supports model. A specific focus will be provided on how to successfully implement evidence-based interventions at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels.

Objectives

  • Differentiate between Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) and sensory-based interventions (SBI) and explain the role of each in the school setting.
  • Identify evidence-based sensory intervention strategies that can be implemented within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework, with a specific focus on Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels.
  • Apply and evaluate evidence-based sensory strategies to support students' needs.

Target Audience

Occupational Therapy Practitioners, Physical Therapy Practitioners, School Administrators, Special Educators, and General Educators Reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate individuals who have special needs as addressed by the Americans with Disabilities Act and who need assistance at this event.
