Session 3A - Using the SETT Framework to Inform AAC Assessment & Implementation Planning
Speaker: Kelly Fonner
Session Description:
This session will explore the SETT Framework (Student, Environment, Tasks, and Tools) as a structured approach to guiding AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) assessment and implementation planning. The session will also discuss strategies for collaboration among educators, therapists, and caregivers to ensure successful AAC integration. Practical examples and case studies will be provided to illustrate how the SETT Framework supports individualized and dynamic AAC decision-making.
Objectives:
- Identify and describe all four components of the SETT Framework (Student, Environment, Tasks, Tools) in an AAC assessment scenario.
- Successfully lead a student team deliberating about AAC tools based on the SETT Framework
- Create a basic AAC implementation plan that includes at least three specific strategies for integrating AAC tools into a student’s daily routines.
