Non-Traditional Pathways
Non-Traditional Certification
Are your students looking to enter the workforce right away? Do they enjoy working with computers and technology? There are many freelance and entry level positions available without a certification or degree. A job in the Computer Science field can be rewarding and provide stability for individuals who aren’t sure if continuing their education is the right fit for them. Attending
bootcamps can help sharpen your skills or expose you to new content and can be an alternative way to employment.
Students who are not looking to enroll in post secondary education can also explore careers in Computer Science. Many companies will hire prospective employees interested in these careers and teach the skills needed to be successful within the company.
Big name companies will look to hire hard working individuals ready to learn. Look at the big name companies to work for without a college degree.
Activities and Resources for Students
As educators we hope to provide our students with opportunities to enhance their skills or learn new things. If students are struggling to fit classes into an already jam packed schedule or want to be able to learn from home there are a few ways to make this happen. These apps or games can be used free of charge and provide a range of skills from beginner to more advanced. Students that are just exploring or beginning to learn skills can seek games and activities with
Blockly Games or
Scratch. For the more advanced student
MIT APP Inventor is a go to tool to start creating your own Apps.
College & Career Pathways C++ and Java
Do your students want to learn valuable skills software for Computer Science? Have them try their hand at
C++. C++ is the versatile programming language. Think they have C++ down, then try the next level programming language,
Java. These two programming tools can help students become more familiar with the Computer Science world.
