Accessibility checkers are a useful starting point, but creating truly accessible digital content requires a deeper understanding of how individuals with disabilities interact with materials. This session will explore common accessibility barriers that automated tools often miss and highlight advanced remediation strategies for documents, presentations, PDFs, and other instructional resources. Through facilitated discussions and networking, participants will examine real-world examples, discuss complex accessibility challenges, and learn techniques for creating digital materials that are more usable, flexible, and effective for individuals who rely on alternative formats and assistive technology.
Objectives:
- Evaluate digital content for accessibility issues that extend beyond automated accessibility checker results.
- Apply remediation techniques that improve compatibility with screen readers, refreshable braille displays, text-to-speech tools, and other assistive technologies.
- Describe advanced remediation techniques for improving the usability and accessibility of documents, presentations, PDFs, and other digital materials.
