Reconceptualizing Speech Language Service Delivery

Full, diverse caseloads typically don’t allow for creativity in service delivery. Pull-out services are not always appropriate, and the logistics of in-classroom service delivery are difficult. This presentation examines strategies for identifying practical, realistic, and optimal service delivery approaches tailored to the students on your caseload and the conditions in your school. Using traditional speaker instruction, case examples, and practice activities, the presentation explores accessible tools to evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of particular service delivery approaches and helps you select the right option for a particular situation or student.
- Identify service delivery options according to IDEA and research.
- Identify where you are and where you want to be through completion of “Our Many Hats” activity.
- Explain the concept of the SLP as an “independence facilitator” or “coach”
- Modify and use the “Service Delivery Decision-Making Tool” with two different students in mind
- Create an advocacy pitch for use with administrators, colleagues, and/or parents to advocate for flexibility in service delivery
