This session will describe Federal and state requirements regarding the provision of physical education services to students with disabilities and will offer practical activities and modifications to specific audience concerns for physical education services in the public schools for students with low incidence disabilities.

This video is intended to highlight the critical role of the teacher of the deaf/ hard of hearing in supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Please view the companion video “Teaching Strategies” which highlights some of the supports that can be offered to a student with a hearing loss.

This video is the presentation component of the on-demand training package specifically designed to prepare IU TaC and targeted school district personnel to become facilitators of the SaS Consideration Toolkit. Participants are expected to independently access the online training and materials at their own pace and co-facilitate a SaS Consideration Toolkit with a student team with guidance from an experienced SaS Consideration Toolkit facilitator.

The Supplementary Aids and Services (SaS) Consideration Toolkit is a structured method to analyze the instructional, physical, and social environment of a general education classroom from the perspective of an individual student. The intended outcome of using this tool is to identify a list of environmentally-referenced supplementary aids and services to enhance participation and learning for a student with a disability in the general education classroom. This webinar will focus on the components of the toolkit and appropriate uses.

The Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN) develops resources with the intent of sharing these tools with those in the field to better help students. Dr. Kristen Starosta, a consultant with the inclusive practices initiative, shares information about the Supplementary Aids and Services Toolkit.

This session focuses on the implementation of interventions for students for whom Tier 1 practices are unsuccessful. A switch to systems-centered language in our communication around Tier 2 interventions is discussed. A variety of Tier 2 interventions that can be implemented to improve students′ social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes, including peer-mediated interventions are provided along with links to additional resources via the Padlet link below. Planning for, delivering and reflecting of comprehension lesson for 5th grade students.

The ability to proficiently read, whether it be fiction or non-fiction text, is the gateway to future success in a student’s chosen post-secondary pathway. This session will provide background information on both the importance of direct and explicit instruction in the area of reading (ELA: English Language Arts), the challenges faced by students at-risk for reading proficiency and most importantly, will provide an overview on how instruction may be tailored to meet the needs of students during their AEDY placement. Discussion around grade level PA Core Standards and the scaffolding and the differentiation required for many students will be emphasized.

IDEA authorizes parents to make decisions related to the provision of special education services. Whenever the parents of an eligible or thought to be eligible student are not known, cannot be located after reasonable efforts, or when the child is a ward of the state, a surrogate parent must be appointed. The federal requirements related to the appointment of a surrogate parent for IDEA eligible or thought to be eligible students are specified in CFR 3330.519.
