How to Get Around with Blind Square: A Common Sense Approach

This hands-on training will cover the features and functions of a GPS navigation App, called Blind Square. This powerful tool provides the most sophisticated navigation features for people who are blind or visually impaired. Instruction will include a brief overview of the accessibility features of iOS, called VoiceOver, and how it interacts with Blind Square. Applying the instructional practices will be taken to the streets, where participants will be able to experience Blind Square. This will encompass correct set-up and strategies for planning instructional sequencing for students.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify Blind Square settings and define the functionality of use
  2. Identify Blind Square features to turn-on/off to reduce verbosity for targeted instruction
  3. Utilize the My Places feature of Blind Square for route planning and environmental awareness

Orientation and Mobility Specialists

Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
