In this session participants will learn the characteristics of culturally and linguistically responsive MTSS for English learners. They will then explore the use of evidence-based practices across the tiers in MTSS for secondary English learners, with focus on improving reading acquisition and skill.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe the characteristics of culturally and linguistically responsive MTSS for English learners.
  • Differentiate second language acquisition processes from disability.
  • Identify and describe techniques for explicit instruction of oral language and vocabulary.
  • Identify evidence-based practices to develop ELs’ reading skills in each component of reading.
