This session will provide an in-depth look at how quality questions can transform classrooms instruction and student learning. Effective questioning lies at the heart of great instructional teaching Strategies that engage all students in the teacher’s questions and prompt students to generate their own questions will be offered. Enhanced questioning techniques that provide many opportunities for students to respond and facilitate formative assessment for teachers will be shared. Strategies to engage students in more effective discussions will also be shared.
Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Explain the attributes of effective questioning
- Compare and Contrast questions that facilitate student discussion and those that do not
- Evaluate pedagogical practices that enhance and extend student questioning
- List pedagogical practices to enhance student learning through questioning and discussion
