School psychologists are educational professionals with highly specialized training that enables them to provide a comprehensive service delivery model, yet many school psychologists in Pennsylvania (and nationally) primarily serve a function of completing evaluation and reevaluation reports to determine eligibility and need for special education services. With the current shortages of school psychologists, this course offers participants information for entry points, based upon data, to begin to shift the role of the school psychologist. An emphasis will be placed on prevention services to reduce adverse outcomes for students, such as over-identification for special education services, poor academic outcomes, exclusionary disciplinary practices, and out-of-school placements.
Objectives
Participants will:
- Evaluate their current level of implementation of comprehensive school psychological services
- Identify data sources to evaluate systemic strengths and areas of need / focus for prevention efforts school psychologist can support
- Apply resource mapping skills to prioritize areas of focus and to efficiently / effectively allocate resources
Target Audience
School psychologists, Student services directors, administrators
Reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate individuals who have special needs as addressed by the Americans with Disabilities Act and who need assistance at this event. Contact: Tina Rife, at 717-901-2278, or
