This training workshop is required for all BrainSTEPS team leaders. The purpose of this bi-annual workshop is to ensure that BrainSTEPS team leaders are equipped with the knowledge they need to oversee their regional Intermediate Unit BrainSTEPS teams.

Discussion will cover students with LONG-COVID/Neuro-COVID and how to manage their symptoms when referred to BrainSTEPS. Team leaders will set goals for the coming school year (2022-23) based on current data for their individual teams that will be provided based on 2021-22 data. The updated Best Practices for BrainSTEPS will be reviewed. Topics to be addressed include strategies for managing student behaviors post-brain injury and updates on the CDC BrainSTEPS STATBI study. Additionally, team leaders will share strategies to effectively manage their Intermediate Unit BrainSTEPS team. Through sharing strategies, step-by-step procedures will be expanded upon from team leaders across the state. Database proper use and strategies will be reinforced.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe at least 5 behavior strategies to immediately share with local school districts for use with students post-brain injury.
  • Describe and discuss STATBI research project updates and how BrainSTEPS can improve areas of need across the state.
  • Identify strategies for managing student behavior problems after brain injury.
