RENEW (Rehabilitation for Empowerment, Natural Supports, Education and Work) is a secondary transition model developed by the University of New Hampshire Institute on Disability to support adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges. Schools in PA have begun to implement RENEW as a tertiary level intervention to promote high school completion. During the core team training, participants will learn the essential features of the RENEW model as well as the goals, strategies, and systems required to successfully implement RENEW. Core team members will learn their role in supporting youth through the RENEW process. Specifically, team members will develop systems to support the fidelity of RENEW implementation; monitor feedback loops to ensure you are accessing supports and interventions necessary for their success; track RENEW progress and outcome data; and communicate and disseminate success with others.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:
  • Discuss the difference between an individual student team and a tertiary level planning team
  • Develop a clear and concise mission statement
  • Create a process for referral, person-centered planning and individualized teams
  • Develop a detailed written plan with goals and establish timelines for this school year
