This session will highlight tools used to assess auditory access for students with complex needs, particularly those who are deaf or deafblind with additional diagnoses. We will discuss modifications to "typical" assessments, as well as specially designed tools to gather pertinent data. Collaboration with the child's medical team, family and educational team is essential for progress. Educational Audiologists are often the bridge between medical diagnoses and educational application.

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe how to use appropriate educational audiology assessments to gather data on student's auditory access and skill development.
  • Discuss how to collaborate with medical and educational colleagues using student data to guide treatment plans and services.
  • Support classroom teams and families with appropriate accommodations, technologies and supports for deaf disabled students.
