Ethnic Melodies: Hearing Voice and Harmony in African American Children’s Literature
Ethnic Melodies is a direct follow up to the keynote. Moving from the “what” to the “how” this session focuses on social emotional learning and universal literacy instruction under six categories of children’s literature. This session draws on students’ personal experiences, utilizes relevant pedagogical approaches, cultural values and images to promote self-love, identity development and models for social emotional learning that increase behavioral and academic outcomes. Participants will learn to infuse social emotional learning goals in literacy instruction, utilize culturally responsive practices to enhance equity and positively impact behavioral and academic outcomes, develop an understanding of our own cultural identities as practitioners and how to validate and utilize the cultural identities and values of the students and families we serve.

But We Are Too Busy for PBIS: Encouraging Family Involvement in Program-Wide PBIS Implementation

From Coaching to Implementation: Community Collaboration Supporting Inclusive Practices and PBIS Implementation

Sorting through all the options available to support struggling writers can be a challenging portion of the assistive technology assessment process. Throughout this webinar, we will be describing and demonstrating the feature options in writing technologies through input, processing, output, and other key features that pertain to people with physical disabilities, health impairments, and/or cognitive disabilities. During this session, we will overview the areas of mouse alternatives, onscreen keyboards, alternate keyboards, and the variety of word prediction systems. Participants will receive a feature match matrix that they can use during their alternative writing evaluation process. The benefits of learning this feature match approach are that this process extends beyond the writing area and into all areas of assistive technology.

By attending this webinar, participants will be able to:

• List the input, processing, and output features of alternative writing products
• Compare and contrast alternative writing products in the categories of alternate keyboards, mouse alternatives, onscreen keyboards, and word prediction
• Create an assessment plan including trials for individual cases
