There are several alternative ways that high school students can take courses that award college credit while still in high school.
- College Course Equivalency: Sometimes known as College in the High School (CiHS), this type of program usually results from an agreement between a university or college and a school district, in which the university agrees to award credit to students taking a regular high school computer science class.
- College Course Adoption: Another CiHS option, course adoption means that the high school uses the university’s course materials to deliver a college-level computer science class to high school students.
For both of these options, it is possible that the student may have to pay a tuition fee to receive the credits, although some school districts may negotiate a reduced fee for their students, or pay the fee outright.
