Professional Learning Opportunities

In Pennsylvania, there are several professional learning opportunities available. For information on the current and upcoming professional learning opportunities, click here

SCRIPT

The SCRIPT (Strategic CSforALL Resource and Implementation Planning Tool) "is a framework to guide teams of district administrators, school leaders, and educators through a series of collaborative visioning, self-assessment and goal-setting exercises to create or expand upon a computer science education implementation plan for their students" (CSforALL).

In collaboration with CSforALL, PaTTAN has begun a statewide SCRIPT initiative to facilitate the creation of hyper-local Computer Science goals and planning procedures by LEAs. As of December 2021, 70 Intermediate Unit STEM Points of Contacts and TaCs from across the Commonwealth are SCRIPT Facilitators. Between the Intermediate Units and PaTTAN over 200 LEAs have participated in a SCRIPT workshop.

CSinPA K-8 Virtual Pathway

The CSinPA K-8 Virtual Pathway includes 48 hours of professional learning conducted via asynchronous and synchronous online activities. Over the course of the program, participants set goals for expanding CS access for students and develop and share artifacts to demonstrate progress towards their goals.

The Pathway supports K-8 educators involved with CS instruction, whether as stand-alone classes or by integrating CS concepts and practices into other content-area instruction.

Objectives
Educators engaged in the Pathway will:

  1. Access and use the K-12 Framework and CSTA standards.

  2. Initiate and reflect on a small-scale implementation pilot.

  3. Recognize and create a plan to close equity gaps in CS education, specifically for students with disabilities and other historically underrepresented populations, such as students of color and female students.

  4. Leverage community and stakeholder partnerships.

  5. Articulate the need for CS in education and our communities.

Fill out this brief form and we'll get in touch to discuss the Pathway and opportunities to join upcoming cohorts.

7-12 Praxis Prep Pathway

Any PA 7-12 CS teacher that did not participate in a Targeted Grant 7-12 PDE Pathway is eligible to enroll in a self-paced online course to prepare for the exam. There is no cost to participate and Act 48 credit is available. Learn more here.

Local IUs

In addition to local offerings, IUs engaged in the PDE State System of Support (SSoS) provide services to support and establish Computer Science initiatives in their region. Examples include:
  • Facilitating SCRIPT workshops
  • Facilitating CSinPA K-8 Virtual Pathway
  • Supporting participants who are enrolled in the 7-12 Praxis Prep Pathway
  • Supporting STEM and CS student competitions (Governor’s STEM competition, Cyber Robotics Coding Competition)
