The University of Denver will present this training centered on how the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) supports the inclusion and belonging of children with disabilities from birth to school age in the early childhood settings selected by their families. This training will focus on the social construct of disability and how the physical environment and routines can ensure the rightful presence of infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children with disabilities across settings.
Objectives:
Participants will:
- Define the construct of disability as stated in IDEA and the implications for young children with disabilities.
- Define rightful presence and the implications for young children with disabilities.
- List strategies that support the rightful presence of children with disabilities across settings including universal design for learning, learning trajectories, assistive technology, instructional supports and accommodations.
- Explain and reflect on examples of the aforementioned strategies in case studies that can be used in application for children birth to school age.

Preschool and Infant Toddler Early Intervention Professionals including teachers, therapists, and special instructors; Early Intervention Leaders; Early Childhood Education professionals
