This session is designed for individuals in the coaching and consulting capacity supporting school-level fidelity of an integrated multitiered system of supports (MTSS). Participants may include MTSS, English language development specialists, coaches, Special Education to name a few. The session will align with the essential components of MTSS for language acquisition and the necessary infrastructure for successful implementation to effectively integrate MTSS systems to support English Learners with and without disabilities.

Objectives:

1. To use the MTSS for ELs Literacy Implementation Rubric to provide baseline data of current systems, create a plan to address the needs of ELs, and monitor short -and long-term progress towards developing a repeatable and sustainable model.
2. How the continuum of second language development impacts learning across instructional tiers and create an instructional plan that includes both a language and a content goal.
3. Analyze student performance data disaggregated by at least two characteristics (e.g., EL status, gender, special programs) to inform instructional decisions and monitor progress towards standards.
4. The five components of the PLUSS framework and provide an example of at least one evidence-based strategy for each component.
5. The concept of cross linguistic transfer to create a chart identifying at least two linguistic features that show positive, negative, and neutral transfer.
6. How to use web resources for comparing and contrasting students’ home languages and English to use in creating a transfer chart.
7. Apply the use student achievement data to plan a PLUSS lesson for (a) core instruction and (b) intervention utilizing at least three PLUSS components.
8. To use data from the Teacher-Self-Observation Rubric to plan job-embedded professional development and targeting at least three of the five PLUSS components.
