Participants will explore a multitude of assessments available to address the unique needs of every student with Cortical Visual/Cerebral Impairment (CVI), a brain-based visual impairment. The session will include a walk-through of a sample assessment form, providing a practical understanding of its components and usage. We will unpack the most common assessments and share some new and upcoming assessments. Additionally, the discussion will focus on how these assessments inform the educational team, guiding the development of individualized education plans (IEPs) and tailored support strategies. Following the presentation, teachers will move into breakout rooms for networking with others to discuss topics further, ask questions, and share ideas and resources.

Objectives:

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

• Explain two assessment tools and how they support students with CVI
• Discuss importance of compiling assessment results in a clear and easy-to-understand report that can be shared with the educational team
• Share the role and responsibilities of Teachers of Students with Visual Impairments with regards to CVI assessment
  
  

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

• Share at least one specific instructional strategy used to support a student with CVI
•  Explain a new strategy that they plan on incorporating in their own professional practice
•  Identify at least two resources to support instruction and/or assessment for students with CVI

Teachers for the Visually Impaired, Orientation and Mobility Specialists, Dual-Certification TVI/COMS, Speech-Language Pathologists, Administrators, TAC, Special Education Teachers, Regular Education Teachers, Related Service Providers Reasonable efforts will be made to accommodate individuals who have special needs as addressed by the Americans with Disabilities Act and who need assistance at this event.
