This course offers a collection of short, focused learning interactions—called Behavior Bits—designed to introduce early intervention professionals to the foundational principles of behavior. Each bit presents a key concept in a simple, practical way, with real-world examples relevant to early intervention settings. Whether you're new to behavior concepts or looking for a quick refresher, this course will help you build confidence in understanding why behaviors happen and how to support positive behavior change.

Objectives

Participants will be able to:

1. Describe and identify the six measurable dimensions of behavior to support accurate observation and data collection.
2. Differentiate between the form and function of behavior and explain how understanding function informs behavior support strategies.
3. Define key behavioral concepts such as reinforcement, punishment, and motivating operations, including their positive and negative forms.
4. Develop operational definitions of behavior that are observable and measurable to ensure consistency across team members.
5. Apply basic data collection strategies, such as ABC and measurement tools, to identify behavior patterns and make informed decisions in early intervention settings.
