Learn how to directly teach behavior expectations and peer related social skills as preventative classroom-wide practices that are research-based and promoted by the National Center for Pyramid Model Innovations. Participants will self-assess how they currently teach behavior expectations and peer-related social skills and further learn how direct teaching can decrease challenging behaviors and promote desirable behaviors. Participants will build upon what they are already doing to be more intentional and systematic with their implementation. Participants will leave with action steps that can be implemented immediately in early childhood and intervention settings.
Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Identify research to support the practice of directly teaching behavior expectations in early childhood environments.
- Describe how to directly teach behavior expectations through developmentally appropriate activities.
- Describe how to directly teach peer-related social skills (e.g., problem-solving, friendship skills, etc.) through developmentally appropriate activities.
- Create an action plan.
- List resources to support implementation and learn how to implement strategies successfully.
