Engaging Caregivers in Session Planning: Meaningful Targets, Routines, and Strategies

This interactive training will build interventionists’ skills to support caregivers to be shared decision-makers in identifying the session plan for their child. Case study examples will highlight the importance of the caregiver role. Each component of session planning will be discussed and defined including targets, routines, and strategies. Participants will engage in activities to practice strategies for coaching caregivers to be active team members in their child’s session.
Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Recognize the role of caregivers in planning meaningful targets, routines, and strategies.
- Identify connections between targets, routines, and strategies.
- Determine how and where caregivers recognize their successful use of intervention strategies and their child’s successful target use.
Target Audience
Special Instructors, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Speech Language Pathologists who are working in Infant Toddler Early Intervention.
