This training provides participants with the information and practice needed to become a NASP PREPaRE Crisis Prevention and Preparedness Workshop trainer. Participants will acquire the knowledge, skills, and confidence to train school personnel in the facilitation of crisis preparedness, establishment of a safe school climate to prevent and protect from crisis incidents, and development of an emergency operations plan to mitigate traumatic impact and promote recovery.
Objectives
Participants will demonstrate and facilitate learning activities across the following areas of the PREPaRE curriculum:
- Explain the key mission phases of crisis management;
- Observe and components necessary for a balanced approach to comprehensive school safety and crisis preparedness;
- Implement and evaluate the physical and psychological safety efforts;
- Provide the purpose, functions, and guiding principles of developing comprehensive
safety and crisis teams and plans;
- The development of specific functional and threat- or hazard-specific protocols;
- The major functions of the Incident Command System (ICS);
- Specific strategies to address challenges associated with communication;
- Inclusive planning to meet diverse needs; and,
- Strategies for examining the effectiveness of crisis prevention
and preparedness.
