You may have seen/heard about audiograms. You may have been told a diagnosis for the student's hearing loss or observed different kinds of amplifications or assistive devices in the classroom. What does all of that really mean? This workshop helps you understand this information and help you better prepare for your work as interpreters for DHH students in general education settings.

Objectives

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the fundamentals of hearing loss, etiologies, and audiograms/hearing assessments.
  • Identify how different assistive listening devices work and their limitations
  • Apply fundamental understandings to IEPs, roles of team members, and then to personal service provisions as ASL interpreters for students within schools.
