Social-Emotional Learning needs to be deliberate and explicit in teaching prosocial behavior, coping strategies, emotional regulation, and problem solving skills. Kelly Perales shares why this explicit instruction is needed and how we can go about conducting this instruction.

This half-day session is the second part or the Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Tier 2 Interventions series. This video focuses on components of Tier 2 interventions that are needed after planning for intervention and initial implementation. Adaptations for fading and intensifying interventions, progress monitoring, measuring Tier 2 fidelity of practices and systems, and evaluating overall student outcomes will be discussed. This half-day training will introduce participants to the rationale for targeted, Tier 2 intervention to meet the social, emotional, behavioral needs of all students. We will cover how to identify students who are in need of Tier 2, how to pinpoint their area of need, match evidence-based intervention, and create a data-based intervention plan for each student needing Tier 2 supports. Youth from across Pennsylvania are describing what they are doing to “Make it Happen” during their time in quarantine. Tips are shared from students as young as two years old, to seniors in high school. Ideas around academics, behavior and social-emotional strategies are noted.

This video highlights several high school students who are involved with the State Systemic Improvement Plan (SSIP) to increase graduation rates and decrease dropout rates. They share their challenges and how to overcome them in order graduate. In addition, they note their goals after graduation and a checklist is provided to guide and encourage students to stay on track in order to complete school.

The Bureau of Special Education is partnering with a number of LEAs to implement its State Systemic Improvement Plan. BSE is also partnering with the federally funded Community Parent Resource Center Hispanos Unidos para Niños Excepcionales (HUNE). Community and mentoring materials and resources developed through this partnership are being shared with other organizations. The Students Voices video showcases the program HUNE offers to ensure students stay in school, graduate, and become contributing members of society.

This session focuses on the implementation of interventions for students for whom Tier 1 practices are unsuccessful. A switch to systems-centered language in our communication around Tier 2 interventions is discussed. In particular, the importance of preventative classroom management practices will be highlighted with practical strategies shared throughout the workshop. The saying "the whole is worth more than the sum of its parts" really captures the essence of effective preventative classroom management. While there are a number of distinct strategies a teacher can employ in the classroom, the classroom climate is most influenced through the interactive effect of particular preventative procedures in tandem with efficient methods of early intervention with student inappropriate behavior.

This 52-minute video features a session at the 2016 PBIS Implementer's Forum. State wide and school wide implementation are addressed and RENEW is defined as a tier 3 intervention. The process of RENEW is briefly described and then three youth share their experience and outcomes relative to the RENEW process.
