These two half-day trainings held back to back, with Dr Louisa Moats, will the address the foundations of learning to read and the contribution of syntactic processing to reading comprehension. There will be two ½ day sessions. Participants can participant in ½ a day or both AM and PM Sessions.

In the AM portion of this session, The Foundations of Learning to Read: Still of Paramount Importance! we will explore how students learn to read, according to past and current scientific evidence. In Part 2, we will sort out the “ph” words, illustrating principles of instruction that lay a solid foundation for learning to read and spell.

The PM session, The Contribution of Syntactic Processing to Reading Comprehension will focus on teaching sentence structures and grammatical concepts that are challenging for students to process, examine the effect of sentence processing on comprehension, and explore some activities and techniques for enhancing syntactic awareness in students with underdeveloped language abilities.
