The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) Bureau of Special Education, in collaboration with the 2017-18 Institutions of Higher Educationa (IHE) partners has completed a third year of Project MAX implementation.

This final cohort of IHE partners has developed strategies to embed Project MAX principles, materials, resources, and tools into coursework for preservice teachers. The IHE Partners includes special education faculty from: Arcadia University, Cairn University, Drexel University, Duquesne University, Eastern University, and Slippery Rock University.

The Project MAX 2018 Spring Symposium will feature implementation results from these six universities. Faculty will present how they adopted, adapted, and infused Project MAX professional development materials into courses and across certification programs . Special education faculty from across the commonwealth are invited to hear how each IHE partner has "maximized" Project MAX for the advancement of their preservice teacher candidates.

Objectives

IHE Partners will:

1. Review data based on last year’s IHE Partners implementation and learn about the Project MAX Statewide Parent Network
2. Present their 2017-18 Project MAX implementation processes with evidence of efficacy
3. Network and share scale-up and sustainability approaches with former IHE Partners

Target Audience

All Pennsylvania teacher preparation program faculty are invited to attend the Spring Symposium to learn more about how to include Project MAX materials and resources into their certification programs.
