This will be the second annual retreat for Statewide Supervisors of Programs Serving Students with Visual Impairments. The focus of this 2-day event will be on disability specific content to support best practices to meet the educational needs of students who are identified as blind or visually impaired. The retreat experience will balance formal presentations with informal discussions and collaboration opportunities to share successes and address questions you may have with fellow professionals. Topical sneak peek: The development and refinement of your programs’ student eligibility letter as per the May 2017, OSEP Dear Colleague letter.
Objectives
Participants will:
- Explain criteria that cannot be excluded in eligibility guidelines and definition as defined by the OSEP May 2017 Memorandum.
- List assessments used to determine eligibility as a student with a visual impairment.
- Describe and compare the Texas VISSIT and Michigan Severity Rating.
- Explain the purpose of The Pennsylvania Advisory Committee on Education of Students Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired (PACES-BVI).

Supervisors of Programs for Students with Visual Impairments
Individuals attending this course must arrive on time and stay the duration of the course in order to receive Act 48 Professional Education hours. Requests for exceptions are to be brought to the attention of the individual´s Superintendent or IU Director prior to the course.
