Emotional Support Teachers Networking Series
Acceptance Commitment Training in Schools with Educators and Students: Part 2
Webinar
Session Dates
Wednesday December 11, 2024 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM - Webinar
Closed
During this session, the presenter will continue the conversation about Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) which increases psychological flexibility by building skills to increase awareness of ourselves and our contexts, openness to our emotions, and engagement in valued pursuits even (especially) when we are experiencing distress.
This session will provide emotional support teachers opportunities to explore ways for incorporating ACT into a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework.
ACT is based in the same principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) that inform the Functional Behavioral Assessment conducted to develop the Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP) for an Individual Education Plan (IEP). ACT integrates training in mindfulness and acceptance of thoughts and feelings with strategies for behavior change that help individuals move toward doing what they value most in life.
Participants will be able to:
- Summarize how ACT-based strategies can align with a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support framework
- List at least one way to practice each of the three component skills of psychological flexibility with students
- Explain how one or more ACT-based models (e.g., The Matrix) can be implemented as an antecedent approach to support values-driven behavior in the classroom
