Participants will learn advocacy strategies to facilitate meaningful change to attract and retain school-based Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs). Specific topics to be addressed include how to build relationships with collaborators and decision-makers across district settings, identify data to collect highlighting SLP responsibilities/needs at the building level, develop a plan for collecting and analyzing the data, and share the data for LEA discussion regarding SLPs affecting student success. These steps will help LEAs establish a plan to support SLPs in meeting their responsibilities and maximizing student success. Practical examples will be shared. Networking opportunities will be provided for discussions, questions, and sharing of ideas and resources.

Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe how to build relationships with collaborators and decision-makers in school settings, regarding SLP caseload size
  • Identify data to collect to highlight SLP workloads and responsibilities
  • Develop a plan to collect, analyze, and report the data related to SLP workloads to LEAs
