In this session, we will describe five ways that early interventionists can set the stage for coaching with childcare providers while building a strong partnership built on mutual respect. We will reflect on our biases and assumptions about childcare providers, consider how to reframe these thoughts and assumptions to honor the experiences and expertise of the childcare provider, and discuss how to communicate about our role as early interventionists in the classroom. This virtual session will include discussions, reflective activities and examples from community-based settings.

Objectives

Participants will:

  1. Identify at least two assumptions about childcare providers that early interventionists make that could interfere with coaching partnerships.
  2. Practice how to reframe those assumptions in a way that honors childcare provider experiences and expertise.
  3. Describe five ways to build trusting partnerships with childcare providers before coaching in early intervention.

Target Audience

This session is designed for those who provide early intervention services in child care settings. Information will be appropriate for both Infant Toddler and Preschool Early Interventionists.
