Join us for our fifth annual AAC Talks web conference designed to provide practical ideas, strategies, and resources for making connections and engaging students with complex communication needs. This year’s theme, the AAC Unleashed: Empowering Diverse Learners, is meant to inspire participants to consider creative solutions and new ways of thinking about AT implementation that reflect the many aspects of diversity represented by our students who use augmentative-alternative communication systems. National and local presenters will discuss a variety of topics including the importance of person-centered practices honoring the uniqueness of individuals, how a variety of communication partners can be empowered to support the use of a range of communication methods, principles of a culturally and linguistically affirming approach to AAC, and practical ideas on how to develop and implement lessons that include a variety of AAC strategies and devices.

Objectives

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the importance of being informed about a person's social networks when making recommendations/decisions related to AAC
  • List two of the main challenges in providing AAC services to children with complex communication needs from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Define the elements of effective collaboration and teaming for integration of AAC systems across activities and devices
