Participants will review how to assess for specific learning disabilities (SLD) using a responsiveness to intervention (RTI) approach. Specifically, attendees will learn to operationalize level of performance using contemporary approaches using existing data. Next, attendees will operationalize how responsiveness to intervention within a well-implemented multi-tiered system of support using contemporary practices and empirically-validated techniques.
Consideration and documentation of federally-required classroom observations and rule-out criteria (e.g., lack of instruction; other conditions; environmental/economic disadvantage; limited English proficiency) will also be reviewed.
Case studies will be used to illustrate how to document all required elements of a comprehensive evaluation for SLD using RTI methodologies.
