Accessing Vocabulary Through Explicit Morphology Instruction
Wednesday March 23, 2022 12:30 PM - 3:45 PM - Webinar
Vocabulary is one of the most important aspects of instruction across content. Effectively and explicitly teaching morphology, the meaningful parts of words, will provide students with access to an infinitely larger word bank, and increase their ability to read, spell and comprehend more efficiently. This session will provide educators with the knowledge, skills and some strategies to support morphological instruction in their ELA or Content area classrooms.
Participants will be able to:
- distinguish and classify common morphemes in multi-syllablic and compound words.
- build graphic organizers to support student acquisition of morphemes and understanding of morphemic relationships.
- compare explicit strategies designed to support morpheme instruction.
- list ways to provide extended support for students with diverse learning and language needs.
