Taking turns (serve and return) is one of the earliest social skills we learn and is essential for communication and relationships. In this session, participants will be challenged to insert multiple opportunities to practice taking turns into routines in order to assist children who need extra support for this.

Objectives

Participants will:

  • List 3 typical early childhood activities in which turn taking is essential.
  • Identify several resources and plan how to teach one within their daily schedules.
  • Identify two strategies they will use within the next two weeks for the age group they serve.
