Deepening and accelerating learning for secondary English Learners requires we remove systemic barriers that prevent equitable access to a rigorous educational experience. This session will address emerging research findings about the barriers to enrollment in challenging courses and the scarcity of quality learning opportunities offered English Learners in secondary schools.
Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Explain the links between course design and placement and English Learner success
- List key features and principles of quality learning opportunities for adolescent English Learners
- Describe approaches for supporting the development of educator expertise to serve English Learners with rigor and excellence
