Educational leaders face a unique challenge in building CS programs that are comprehensive, inclusive, and strategically-aligned. This program is designed to meet this challenge by providing participants with a foundational understanding of CS and a framework for increasing or expanding CS education.

Objectives

- Leverage CS education to address data-driven goals
- Recognize opportunities to use CS education to support PA content standards
- Identify and determine relevant data sources / sets. 
- Lead a team in setting goals and priorities based on data
- Articulate the need for computer science in Pennsylvania schools
- Define computer science and computational thinking.
- Lead a team to conduct a self-assessment/  analysis of current state of CS 
- Determine the relevant data, curriculum selection, alignment & progression, assessments, lesson development, appropriate professional learning, and consideration of the needs of diverse learners required to support the previously developed SMART goals.
- Locate and identify CSTA 2017 standards
- Identify common computer science curriculum resources and providers
- Empower teachers to implement stand-alone and/or integrated computer science curriculum
- Identify curricular needs that can be addressed through an equitable CS education.
- Identify and address potential equity gaps.
- Identify and task teacher-leaders in CS
- Use data to design a plan for appropriate professional learning to support teachers’ implementation of CS education.
- For example: CS concepts/skill pretests for teachers, student achievement in existing CS courses
- Identify relevant stakeholders including teachers, school personnel, community members, higher ed, etc.
- Identify and task teacher-leaders in CS
