During the 2016-17 school year, Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) began collecting data based on work experiences for students with disabilities involved in transition planning during their annual IEP meetings. The data elements are reported annually on the July 1st Pennsylvania Information Management System (PIMS) Special Education Snapshot for students 14 years of age or older or any student who has a transition plan as part of their IEP.
The work experience data collected assists the PA Department of Labor and Industry in meeting the data collection requirements of Act 26. To minimize any redundancy in data collection and reporting procedures, the Bureau of Special Education (BSE) added the relevant work experience/transition Data Elements to the existing July Special Education Snapshot data submission.
Through collaboration with Employment First PA, the PA Department of Labor and Industry and the PA Department of Education are committed to ensuring the collected data regarding transition experiences correlates to the intent of the law. A Penn*Link dated December 11, 2020 introduced revisions to the Act 26 questions effective for the 2020-2021 school year. This webinar will review the changes to the Act 26 questions, and introduce participants to available resources to support the collection and reporting of the work experience data.
