The Special Education Process for Paraprofessionals
Friday January 29, 2021 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Paraprofessionals have an important position in school districts. They can influence positive changes in academic achievement and behavior for students with disabilities. Paraprofessionals should have knowledge of the Special Education Process and where they fit in the process. While the responsibilities of a paraprofessional are determined by the IEP team, how they support students is significant. Culturally Responsive Strategies will help paraprofessionals gain a better understanding of culture and how it may influence student behavior, communication, and attitudes toward learning. This event is designed to give paraprofessionals an overview of the special education process and present culturally responsive practices to aid in student and family engagement.
- Describe the components of the special education process.
- Make connections to their roles and elements of the special education process.
- Engage in reflective opportunities to evaluate their abilities to support students in a culturally responsive manner.
