Now, more than ever, educators are facilitating learning in a variety of settings including in-person, hybrid and virtual environments. Meeting the needs of all learners in these varied settings can be daunting. Dr. Katie Novak, author of UDL in the Cloud: How to Design and Deliver Online Education Using Universal Design for Learning (UDL), will address the principles of UDL, how to identify potential barriers and plan lessons for virtual and hybrid learning environments. The goal of the session is to provide strategies and resources to educators so they can effectively design and deliver instruction to their students regardless of the environment.
Objectives
- Explain how the Universal Design for Learning framework is a proactive means by which to address environmental barriers to learning
- Examine learner variability and implications for lesson design and delivery
- Discuss the selection/prioritization of learning goals that are clear, relevant, and appropriate for all learners
- Explore strategies to provide options for how students learn, what materials they use, and how they share what they have learned
